BCP case against the introduction f the EVM starts today

Thursday, 15 June, 2017 - 08:30

The case in which opposition party, BCP is challenging the introduction of the controversial electronic voting machines, is due to start at the Francistown High Court before Judge Justice Lot Moroka.

The BCP dragged the government to court arguing that the introduction of the machines is unconstitutional.

The party also argues that EVMs violates the fundamental democratic principles of transparency and openness required for elections, adding that the machines can be tampered with and are therefore unsafe to be used for choosing a government.

BCP spokesperson, MP Dithapelo Keorapetse says the purpose of a roll call is for the court to order extensions or curtailments of time limits for the filing of parties and date for initial case management before the judge.
