An outspoken BDP councillor suspension linked to Khama over Masisi.

Wednesday, 14 June, 2017 - 17:00

An outspoken BDP councillor who took on President Ian Khama for his public support for Mokgweetsi Masisi has declined to link his suspension from the party, to the perceived attack on the president.

Lerala councilor Kabo Ketshogile appealed to Khama to stop his public support of the Vice president Masisi in the race for the ruling BDP chairmanship, during the National Council held in Gaborone in March.

He told the president that the move was likely to resuscitate factions that ravaged the party in the past.

Shortly after his remarks Ketshogile was suspended from party activities for 60 days by Khama, allegedly for assaulting another party member in the run-up to the Maun Congress.

Ketshogile has however refused to comment on the circumstances surrounding his suspension, but said he does not believe it is linked to his comments.

Some BDP activists have accused party officials of purging activists who are likely to vote for cabinet minister Nonofo Molefhi at next month's congress.
