Police expresses concern at an upsurge of armed robberies

Police have expressed concern about an upsurge of armed robberies involving the use of illegal firearms locally.

Briefing the media yesterday, Divisional Commander, South Central, Senior Assistant Commissioner Mathews Letsholo said as a result of these robberies there have been substantial amounts of money stolen while some victims sustained injuries during robberies.

Letsholo indicated that they have since arrested a number of people suspected to be involved in armed robberies recently in the greater Gaborone.

Letsholo also said they have confiscated firearms and drugs from the suspected criminals involved in armed robberies.

He said that the suspects, who are believed to be a syndicate comprising of Batswana and foreign nationals, are to appear before Court in Lobatse this morning.
