Article By: Keba Rasekhutla Vote counting in the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) primary "bulela ditswe" elections will extend into today after the first phase of voting faced several challenges.
The process, which began amidst shortages of ballot papers across constituencies, required an extension of voting into the next day.
BDP Spokesperson Kagelelo Kentse told Gabz FM News that despite the initial setbacks, voting turnout remained steady once the process began.
He noted that the party expects to conclude and release all official election results by this afternoon as there are currently 10 more to go.
The delays in the arrival of essential election materials added tension to an already closely contested primary election.
Party President Mokgweetsi Masisi, who cast his vote in the Moshupa West ward, expressed disappointment over the issues with ballot printing and the transportation of presiding officers. On another note, the BDP has promised to launch an investigation into an incident in which journalists were attacked by election officers and had their property destroyed.

While incumbent Lefoko Moagi has been unseated in the Gamalete constituency by Dr. Dikgato Derrick Tlhoiwe.
Dr. Tlhoiwe emerged victorious with 2,835 votes, while Moagi secured 2,267 votes.
In Kgalagadi North, Moatlhodi Mahupu garnered 1,966 votes to defeat incumbent MP Talitha Monnakgotla, who received 1,765 votes.
In Mmadinare, Minister of Lands and Water Affairs Dr. Kefentse Mzwinila unseated incumbent MP Molebatsi Molebatsi with 1760, while Molebatsi secured 1263 votes. In Tsabong, Female candidate Tammie Kaartze unseated Incumbent MP Sam Brooks with 3306 votes while Brooks got 2500 votes.
