Minister of Finance Peggy Serame has unveiled a larger budget for the 2024/25 financial year, emphasising its role as a stimulus budget" aimed at driving economic growth and job creation. The announcement, delivered during yesterday’s budget speech, outlined key strategies and initiatives to achieve this goal.
Serame said the increased budget allocation signifies a deliberate push to stimulate economic activity. The minister added that government aims to achieve this through measures like maximising domestic revenue collection, curbing expenditure growth and leakages, and addressing spending inefficiencies the value of active citizen participation, Serame announced the creation of a revolving fund named "Chema Chema," specifically targeting the informal sector. This initiative aims to empower individuals and small businesses with financial support.
Another significant announcement concerned political party funding. Leader of Opposition Dithapelo Keorapetse welcomed this move by the government. Specific details about the allocation of these additional budget funds are yet to be announced.
