BOTSWANA ON HIGH ALERT FOR FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE OUTBREAK IN RAMATLABAMA

Article By: Tumelo Mouwane

The Ministry of Agriculture is on high alert following a suspected outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in Ramatlabama.

Minister of Agriculture, Fidelis Molao, told Gabz FM News that there have not been any movement restrictions on animal products at the moment.

South African media reported last week that a farm in Ramatlabama, near Mahikeng, has been put under quarantine while a series of investigations, including sample collection and testing, are still underway.

The suspected outbreak has caused commotion within the farming community, especially because Ramatlabama on the Botswana side houses the Ramatlabama Artificial Insemination center, a key investment facility owned by the government.

Minister Molao is expected to address a press conference this morning to provide further details on the matter.
