DEFENCE MINISTER CALLS FOR HARSHER PENALTIES TO COMBAT ILLEGAL SAND MINING



Minister of Defence and Security Kagiso Mmusi has highlighted the inadequacy of fines and penalties set by the Ministry of Minerals & Energy as a key contributor to illegal sand mining.

In an exclusive interview with Gabz FM News, Mmusi emphasized the need for stricter regulations to deter illegal activities.

Mmusi also revealed that his ministry will soon deploy law enforcement agents to tackle the issue of illegal sand mining more effectively.


Meanwhile, police in Mogoditshane have reported ongoing concerns about illegal mining activities by Zimbabwean immigrants at the Metsimotlhabe River. District 13 Commanding Officer Rus Letsebe informed Gabz FM News that over 150 illegal sand miners were in custody as of May 2024.
