The local mining industry has been tipped to recover this year following a difficult year, particularly in the diamond sector.
Botswana Chamber of Mines CEO Charles Siwawa told Gabz FM News that even though copper and gold prices improved drastically last year, the expectation is that diamond markets will pick up and boost diamond mining countries. Siwawa also stated government diamond marketing company Okavango Diamond Company struggled in the last quarter to sell due to weak diamond markets.
Siwawa dismissed any suggestion that the pro-liferation of lab diamonds might have contributed to the declined sales of natural diamonds.
