MINISTER FOR STATE PRESIDENT Criticizes Parliament for Rejecting Constitutional Amendment Bill

Article By: Tumelo Mouwane

Minister for State President, Kabo Morwaeng, says Parliament's failure to pass the Constitutional Amendment Bill has denied Batswana access to fundamental rights.

Speaking at a press conference today, Morwaeng emphasized that key rights, such as the right to work and the right to health, could have been enshrined in the constitution if the bill had been passed.

The bill was rejected in Parliament yesterday, despite the ruling party's efforts to secure it.

Morwaeng is of the belief that the bill was progressive and that extensive consultations had been conducted to ensure its alignment with the needs of the people, despite contrary claims by civil society, opposition parties and other stakeholders.
