Botswana’s power supply challenges may soon ease following the successful conclusion of high-level energy talks with South Africa.
The Ministry of Minerals and Energy announced that Minister Bogolo Kenewendo met with her South African counterpart, Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, in Pretoria, where the two reached an agreement in principle for a firm power supply deal to help stabilize Botswana’s electricity needs.
Final details of the agreement are expected within two weeks.
Botswana is facing a power shortage crisis which has led BPC to enforce rolling power cuts to manage the demand.
The ministry however says the situation is expected to improve further with the return of a second unit at Morupule B Power Station, which will boost local generation capacity and reduce load shedding.
