PARLIAMENT DEFERS PROPOSED HOMOSEXUALITY AMENDMENT BILL

Parliament this morning deffered a bill seeking to recognize same sex relations, in order to allow further engagement on the matter.

Minister of Justice Machana Shamukuni told  parliament that the bill, which he had  intended to table for debate has sparked robust discussions between different stakeholders.

He said this therefore prompted his Ministry to allow these engagements to take place before the bill could be debated by lawmakers.

The amendment bill seeks to repeal sections 164(a) and (c) of the penal code, in response to the 2021 court of appeal ruling declaring these provisions unconstitutional.
