Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) plans to adopt renewable energy solutions to help counter water supply issues caused by frequent power outages.
According to WUC CEO Gaselemogwe Senai, ongoing load shedding is disrupting water distribution services nationwide and negatively impacting the corporation's revenue.
Senai told Gabz FM News that in order to tackle this, WUC intends to decrease its dependence on the Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) by investing in green technologies that will enable the pumping of water independently of the national power grid.
In addition, Senai said that WUC is considering technology that could help mitigate water loss through evaporation, a major issue in Botswana's hot and dry climate.
He highlighted that the equipment would help preserve more water in storage facilities, boosting the efficiency of water use and supporting long term supply security
